LGS Hosts Community Info Night Thursday

LIMERICK PA – A community information night intended to introduce area residents to one of their largest and most visible corporate neighbors, Exelon Nuclear’s Limerick Generating Station (LGS), has been scheduled by the company to be held Thursday (May 6, 2010) from 5-8 p.m. in The Loft at Limerick Golf Club, 765 N. Lewis Rd., Limerick PA. The event is free and open to the public.

It’s an opportunity, LGS site Vice President Chris Mudrick said, to talk with Limerick’s engineers, operators, chemists and environmental scientists. Visitors can speak one-on-one with Limerick employees about what they do at the plant, and learn more about its operations. LGS technical and safety experts will be available to discuss the plant, safety, security, maintenance programs and community involvement.

“Our goal is for our neighbors to have an enjoyable evening, and walk away better informed about the nuclear energy plant in their neighborhood,” Mudrick said.

The activity coincides with the mail distribution last week (April 27, 2010) of an Exelon-produced 2010 Public Information Emergency Brochure. It was sent by the company to all residents and businesses within the 10-mile radius of LGS, and provides them with general emergency information.

The brochure contains information about general emergency preparedness, including reception center locations, evacuation routes, a map and a listing of emergency alert broadcast stations. It also includes a special needs card to be completed and returned by people who may have a special transportation or other need.

Exelon encouraged recipients to read and keep the brochure for future reference. Anyone within the 10-mile radius of Limerick who did not receive a brochure in the mail may download a copy from the company website, here.
