HAPPY WITH SATURDAY’S SUCCESS – The Royersford Police Department considered its local participation in Saturday’s (April 30, 2016) national Drug Take-Back Day “a huge success,” it happily announced on Facebook. The effort was particularly valuable, the department noted, because “even though we have a mediation disposal box in our lobby, it is difficult for some people to get here during regular business hours.” The take-back campaign is important because it keeps “these medications out of the hands of unauthorized persons, and out of our water system,” police added. The several pounds of unwanted meds collected in Royersford were part of what Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele (above, standing on a truck bed with the boxed drugs) said was a record 5,637.8 pounds (nearly three tons) of drugs recovered during the weekend. The haul was carted away for safe and legal destruction.
