EAST NORRITON PA – Two week-long environmental learning camps geared toward children age 9-12 and conducted by staff members of the Montgomery County division of Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites are scheduled to be held during July.
What the county describes as its Junior Naturalist Camps are planned for July 11-15 from 9 a.m. to noon daily at the county’s Norristown Farm Park in East Norriton; and also July 18-22 at the same times in its Lorimer Park in Huntingdon Valley. A $50 fee per child will be charged.
Each morning is filled with activities that teach children about the natural world. Insects, forest ecology, creek birds, mammals, and habitat are among topics explored using games, crafts, and hands-on activities. Children learn to use field guides and they complete simple data sheets every day. Camp shirts are issued on the first day of camp.
Camper registration forms are available at either park office, or online here. The registration deadline is July 5; first come, first served. Camps are expected to fill quickly, with space is limited to 12 children per session. For more information, call Ruth King at 610-270-0215, or send her an e-mail here.
