Fast-Moving Snow Storm Closes Area Schools

ROYERSFORD PA – Schools were declared closed this morning (Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017) by the Spring-Ford Area, Pottstown, Pottsgrove, and Perkiomen Valley districts, all in advance or during the first hour of a fast-moving storm weather forecasters predicted would dump up to 12 inches of snow in western Montgomery County.

As of 4:55 a.m. today AccuWeather, which provides weather information services to The Posts, indicated the local area would receive “snow, heavy at times, for at least 120 minutes” beginning at 5 a.m. For a longer term, until at least 4 p.m. today, the National Weather Service held the county under a “winter storm warning” that included snowfall of 1 to 2 inches per hour … for several hours this morning,” accompanied by “strong northwest wind gusts to near 45 miles per hour this afternoon.”

Spring-Ford Area School District

“Due to the impending snow storm, the Spring-Ford Area School District will be closed today, February 9, 2017. All after school activities are postponed or canceled. All district buildings will be closed.”

Pottstown School District

UPDATE as of 5:42 a.m.: “Pottstown School District is closed due to inclement weather today, Thursday Feb. 9. Stay safe.”

Earlier: “Due to the forecasted weather conditions predicted for tomorrow, Thursday, February 9, we will have a Two (2) Hour delayed opening for all students and staff members with a modified PreK schedule. If weather conditions should change and become worse, you will be notified early tomorrow morning. A reminder to parents on two hour delayed opening day we do not serve breakfast.”

Pottsgrove School District

UPDATE as of 5:44 a.m.: “Due to the current weather conditions, the Pottsgrove School District will be closed today, Thursday, February 9, 2017.”

Earlier: “Due to the predicted inclement weather, the Pottsgrove School District is announcing a 2-hour delayed opening tomorrow, Thursday, February 9. If weather conditions should change and become worse, you will be notified early tomorrow morning.”

Perkiomen Valley School District

“Due to forecasted weather conditions, Perkiomen Valley School District schools and offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 9. Stay safe!”
