HARRISBURG PA – Nine western Montgomery County municipalities received a share of more than $2 million paid Monday (April 24, 2017) in liquor license fees collected from restaurants, clubs and hotels across the state during the past five months by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Limerick, Upper Providence, Upper and West Pottsgrove, and New Hanover townships, and the boroughs of Royersford, Collegeville, Trappe, and Pottstown all received checks, the board said.
The money represents a portion of fees paid by board-approved businesses in municipalities where they are located. The municipalities were paid between $200 and $3,000, depending on licensing activity for the period between Aug. 1, 2016, and Jan. 31, 2017. They can spend the money as they see fit “to meet local needs,” according to the board.
Upper Providence topped the list, receiving $3,000. The others were Pottstown, $1,800; New Hanover, $400; Limerick, $300; and Upper and West Pottsgrove, Royersford, Collegeville, and Trappe, with $200 each.
The total amount of the fee reimbursement across the county was $47,400, the board noted.
Liquor licenses must be renewed annually at a cost ranging from $125 to $700. The amount depends on the type of license, and the population of the municipality where a license is located. The board oversees the regulation of more than 15,000 liquor licenses statewide.
