HARRISBURG PA – Senior citizens who rent or own their homes have been given an additional six months to claim a rebate of up to $650 on their rent or property taxes paid during 2016, Pennsylvania legislators reported Thursday (June 15, 2017). The state has extended its deadline on its 2016 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program from June 30 to Dec. 31, they said.
The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 year or older, widows and widowers age 50 or older, and those with disabilities age 18 older. Eligibility information is available online from the state Revenue Department, here. Copies of applicable registration forms are available at most legislators’ offices. Applicants are reminded that they need not pay a private entity for assistance in filing out the forms.
The department plans to begin mailing rebate checks July 3. Those who have already filed for rebates can check online for the status of their claims, here, or by calling 1-888-PATAXES toll-free.
