POTTSTOWN PA – A coordinated effort during the coming week among police departments serving Limerick and Royersford, Lower, Upper, and West Pottsgrove, Pottstown, and five other local law enforcement agencies represents a heightened campaign to identify and arrest anyone driving while intoxicated, they announced.
Part of the stepped-up, multi-jurisdictional DUI enforcement will be the operation of at least one and possibly more sobriety checkpoints on busy area highways or at selected intersections, Pottstown Police Capt. Robert Thomas said in a news release. Their intent: deterring potential drunk drivers, and reducing the number of DUI-related accidents.
Police ask area residents to think ahead and designate a driver before drinking. Also participating in the campaign are the Douglass (Montgomery County), East Coventry, North Coventry, New Hanover, and Upper Providence police departments.
“Team DUI,” as the contingent is known, expects to enforce all liquor law violations, and also address underage consumption and the purchase of alcohol by minors.
