LIMERICK PA – Money to be raised during a spring LPGA golf tournament at Raven’s Claw Country Club in Limerick, which is intended to benefit three Pottstown-area non-profit organizations, will be directed under a recently formed partnership between the club and the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, according to an announcement made Friday (Dec. 22, 2017).
The foundation will provide management and other services for charitable funding to be distributed from the LPGA Symetra Tour’s first Valley Forge Invitational tournament to the recipients: the Tri-County Community Network of Pottstown, the YWCA Tri-County Area, and the Pottstown School District’s Foundation for Pottstown Education. The tournament will be held May 24-26 (2018), preceded by practice rounds and a Pro-Am competition.
Club owner Bob Davis said it would launch “an effort to bring together area golfers and members of the business community to support this event.” His hope, Davis added, “is to raise a considerable amount of money that can be distributed to worthy causes” by the Health & Wellness Foundation. Foundation President David Kraybill said it would “look forward to the possibilities” accompanying the event.
The invitational is one of about 22 official qualifying tournaments for players aspiring to compete on the LPGA Tour. Since 2008, the top 10 players on the annual official Symetra Tour money list have been awarded LPGA Tour membership.
Supporting the tournament with its services aligns with foundation goals, Kraybill noted.
